The Atelier fosters discussion about literary forms by gathering an international cohort of authors, of various ages and viewpoints. We have thus far welcomed early- and mid- career prose writers; in the future we may include other writing forms.
The Atelier is a close-reading workshop. Each participant gives a presentation on a published text that has been influential to them; this is followed by a group discussion. In June and October, 2025, the Ateliers, facilitated by Sylvia Brownrigg and Claire Messud, focused on fiction writers. In June, 2026, the Atelier will welcome memoir writers, and will be facilitated by Sylvia Brownrigg and James Wood. All participants and staff are invited to attend.
Writers also give readings from their own work to the MAP community, enabling Atelier participants to know one another as artists.
The MAP Round Table gathers an international cohort of thinkers to discuss a particular theme, with conversation ranging across disciplines and viewpoints. Past themes have included ‘Movement & Migration’ and ‘Resistance’; in June, 2026 the theme will be ‘Non-Human Communication’.
The Round Table format enables communication between specialists in diverse fields, enacting MAP’s broader mission to foster inter-disciplinary collaboration. Each participant presents a brief lecture, aligned with their area of expertise; this is followed by a moderated discussion with the audience, involving both Round Table and Atelier participants.
The Curators Conference brings together international groups of cultural gatekeepers for area-specific conferences. These areas of expertise include book and magazine publishing, cultural criticism, art and museum curation and more. Participants discuss the state of their field in their respective countries and share information about artists they wish to highlight. These moderated discussions canvas the successes and challenges of curation in the current cultural landscape.
As part of our intergenerational mission, we established an internship for students and recent graduates: the “Cultural Angel” internship. By bringing young people with artistic backgrounds into the MAP program, we aim to expose the next generation of artists to Mediterranean traditions of intercultural, interdisciplinary, and intergenerational exchange. By participating in programming, socializing with guests at meals and sharing their own artistic work, Angels make valuable connections with our guests and with one another.
The residency at La Verriere is open to previous MAP participants. Each program cycle accommodates four residents for one week to two weeks. Residents are asked to cover their own travel and are provided with a private room, a dedicated workspace, three meals a day, airport shuttles and a couple of group outings/events. Residents are free to organize their day with the expectation of attendance at nightly group dinners and workshop sessions.
